In an era where corporate culture is evolving, the traditional office dress code is no longer a one-size-fits-all approach. Today, more and more workplaces are embracing a laid-back and relaxed atmosphere, allowing employees to showcase their personal style while maintaining professionalism. Whether you’re navigating the tech industry or a creative agency, we’ve got you covered with outfit ideas for all you corporate baddies!
The “Sandwich Method” Look
The “sandwich method” is a clever and effective approach to layering outfits that helps you create stylish and balanced ensembles. It consists of wearing the same color for your bottoms as well as your “layering” piece. In the first outfit, the model is wearing a striped shirt that is sandwiched between a cream sweater and matching pants. So, the next time you’re layering your outfit for a day at the office or a casual outing, remember the “sandwich method” to create a well-balanced look that took really no effort at all!
Black on Black
“Black on black” outfits are a timeless and fail-safe choice when it comes to looking put together and chic, especially in a workplace setting. This monochromatic look lies in its simplicity and sophistication. Black is universally flattering and exudes a sense of confidence, making it an ideal choice for professional environments. The second outfit choice consists of a black sweater vest paired with wide-leg trousers and a belt to tie it all in. This simplicity streamlines your morning routine, allowing you to focus on other important tasks.
Whenever I go shopping, I inevitably find myself drawn to neutrals, and there are good reasons for it. Firstly, I find neutral shades are the most flattering on me and my skin tone. However, the biggest reason is that neutrals lie in their versatility- they make the task of assembling outfits significantly more straightforward. An example is pairing a simple tan tank with cream trousers, then throwing on a long cardigan to complete the look. Just as mentioned earlier, neutrals serve as the perfect backdrop, allowing anyone to seamlessly incorporate various colors without appearing overly elaborate.
Cozy and Comfy
Being from Vancouver (where it rains for almost 10 months of the year) having cozy outfit essentials is an absolute necessity. For instance, this striped sweater – it’s that comfy piece in your closet that you can grab on the gloomiest days. To add a unique twist to your outfit, I would opt for a pair of platform Converse sneakers, which is a bit different than the traditional Chuck Taylors. And speaking of essentials, a classic pair of black trousers is a key component for any closet.
It’s no secret that throwing on a dress can instantly elevate even the most casual of looks (take the Jennifer Lawrence Style Steal post for example). The model above pairs a neutral dress with a cozy white cardigan, adding a touch of warmth for those moments in the office where the AC is blasting like crazy. To complete the ensemble, opting for dressy, work-appropriate sneakers not only infuses a modern and practical element but also ensures you stay comfortable during those long work days.
Polished in Tweed
Last but certainly not least, my absolute favorite pieces in my wardrobe are undoubtedly my tweed clothing pieces. The tweed texture can instantly add sophistication without much effort. The model pairs a gorgeous tweed jacket with a pair of tapered pants to reflect professionalism and style. Instead of opting for a pair of kitten heels, why not throw on a pair of black loafers that will help ensure comfort, whether you’re walking to work or navigating your daily commute.
Whether it’s embracing the simplicity of neutrals or the timeless elegance of tweed, they are all excellent choices that can be recreated using the items already in our closets. As we transition into Fall, these outfit inspirations serve as a reminder that our wardrobes can be both functional and fashionable, ensuring we not only look great but also feel confident in the workplace.
