Tips to Create a Mindful Morning

February 3, 2019

by: The Dimple Life

Building a mindful morning doesn’t have to be difficult. It’s the littlest of steps that can make a big difference in your day. For me, I feel like I absolutely start the day off on the wrong foot if I am rushing out the door. I actually wake up much earlier than I actually officially “start” my day, so I wanted to share some tips with you that can help you create a mindful morning. I know it’s helped me a ton!

Start the night before

If you plan to take a morning workout class or if you are planning to go out of the house early, start prepping your items the night before. Lay out your workout clothes, your gym bag, fill up your water bottle. Do everything you possibly can the night before so that way there is one less thought in your mind in the morning. The last thing you need to do in the morning is start remembering what you need. It’s always best to plan ahead!

Just say no to technology

For the longest time I would start my day off with a nice long scrolling session. By the time I knew it, I woke up early and also wasted an hour on my phone just scrolling mindlessly, consuming content that I most likely did not need at that moment. Your brain is just starting to wake up, there’s no need to fill it with all of these external images and words that may harm you. I have kept technology out of my bedroom for months and it has been a literal game changer!

Slow down before you speed up

Before fully starting my day, I slow down. A lot of people recommend meditating first thing in the morning but for me the very first thing I do is I actually read. It gets my eyes to focus on something so it helps me wake up. I also love knowing that I’m learning first thing in the morning! Once I read for about 30 minutes, then I’ll finally get out of bed.

Journal or “brain dump” your thoughts

I have lots of emotions constantly and I like to tap into them by writing. I journal consistently each day and my mornings are best when I can put pen to paper and write out what I’m grateful for and also what is weighing on my heart. I’ve tapped into gratitude and what I hold special in my life so it really helps clear my head and gets me ready to tackle my day with more intention.

Create a to-do list

Along with journaling, I like to create my to-do list for the day. Once I jot everything I need to do down – both for my personal and professional life, I prioritize. I make sure to “eat the frog” and tackle the hardest task first. This way, I get that sucker out of the way! Even if it takes me all day, I’ll at least feel good knowing I accomplished the hardest task! The worst feeling is having a looming difficult task in my mind all day and then not get to it until the following day (if at all!)

Fuel your body

It’s important to nourish your body with the right foods as your first meal. It really helps set the tone for what kind of day it will be. I notice if I start the day off with sugary foods or food that has no nutritional value, I tend to eat more poorly throughout the day. However, when I reach for foods that have real nourishment, I feel more satisfied and I make healthier choices for what’s best for my body. Lately, I’ve discovered the Manitoba Harvest Hemp Yeah! Granola and I love that it’s packed with 10g of plant protein. If you’re not familiar, hemp is a super plant and I have been eating it for years! Hemp has been proven to be a nutritiously dense food – it’s kind of similar to chia or flex seed but it actually has twice the amount of protein and omegas our bodies need. It gives me the boost I need for my day and sustains me until my next meal! Right now, they have three superfood flavors in Blueberry, Dark Chocolate and Honey & Oats – Blueberry is a personal favorite of mine to add into my morning oatmeal.

You can actually purchase Manitoba Harvest Hemp Yeah! Granola on Amazon! You can put Amazon Prime to good use now 🙂

Move your body

Ever since getting the little love of my life, my Chihuahua-Terrier mix baby, Tiger Lily, she has helped me move my body a lot more. I have to take her out in the morning for her walk and it helps me move the legs I’m blessed to have! I get a quick 20 minute walk in with her while I listen to a podcast I need to catch up on.

I hope these tips will help you build a mindful morning for your life!

Thank you to Manitoba Harvest for sponsoring this post – all thoughts are 100% my own! XO
